From the beginning of time sacred movement, song, and story have brought people together to celebrate the changes of seasons, life passages, and life itself. The Dances of Universal Peace are a part of this timeless tradition of Sacred Dance. The Dances were originated by Sufi teacher, Samuel L. Lewis (1896-1971) and use sacred phrases, chants, music and movements from many of the earth's traditions to promote peace and harmony within individuals and groups. There are no performers or audience in the Dances; new arrivals and experienced dancers form the circle together.
Dance meetings are presented monthly at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Clemson, 226 Pendleton Rd., Clemson, SC. Dances are offered from a variety of the world’s spiritual traditions, led by Upstate Dance Leaders, Amina Linda McMakin, Dove Pettit, Noorunnissa Nancy Schlessel, and Anne Bosch.
Dances begin promptly at 6:30 p.m., ending around 8:30 p.m. on the third Saturday (usually) of the month. Bring a friend and a light snack (optional) to share after the Dance. All are welcome! No prior experience needed; all dances are taught in the moment. $5 suggested donation. For more info, contact Nancy Noor at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Dance updates are usually announced on the home page of this site.
